Atlantic Swifties bring exciting new opportunities to Prescott Group!

During a recent Drop-In Club session participants at Club Inclusion learned a fun Taylor Swift dance that had been trending online. Our dance leader Rafaela Muriel Alarcon used a clear teaching style that made it easy for participants to pick up the moves, and the whole group performed beautifully. We filmed the routine and shared it across our social media channels – and the response was incredible. One of Taylor Swift’s own dancers even liked the video!

That excitement sparked something bigger. Atlantic Swifties, a fan group founded by Jillian Wagner and Sarah MacLellan, reached out to Prescott to collaborate on a community event. They wanted to shine a spotlight on the talent and leadership of our members.

On Saturday, November 1st, Rafaela, together with Elise, and Claire Twine — skilled leaders with intellectual and developmental disabilities — taught an inclusive, all-ages Taylor Swift dance workshop at the St Andrew’s Centre in Halifax. Their choreography, teaching techniques, and ability to create a welcoming atmosphere were the heart of the event.

Two classes were offered with over fifty people attending. The workshop also served as a fundraiser for Prescott Group, with a portion of the proceeds supporting our programs. It was a joyful celebration of skill, creativity, and participant-led leadership — and a powerful example of how people with IDDs continue to shape arts and community programming in Halifax.

A big thank-you to Atlantic Swifties

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Atlantic Swifties for initiating this collaboration. Their enthusiasm and support created an exciting opportunity for our participant leaders to shine. By elevating the talent, artistry, and teaching skills of people with disabilities, this event demonstrated the power of inclusive arts programming and the strength of our community partnerships.

Halifax continues to be a city where creativity and inclusion go hand-in-hand, and this dance event was a perfect example.

We were thrilled to dance, celebrate, and share in the joy together!

Inclusive and creative opportunities

We want to give a big thank-you to the Atlantic Swifties for reaching out and organizing this exciting collaboration. Your enthusiasm and support have created a wonderful opportunity to bring people together through dance and music. We truly appreciate the spotlight you’ve given our participants — it showcases the incredible talent and creativity of people with disabilities. This event is a great example of how Halifax continues to shine as an inclusive and creative community, where everyone is valued and celebrated through the arts.

We encourage everyone to join us for an evening full of dance!
