Our son’s 16 years of belonging with Prescott
Dear Fellow Prescott, Friends and Families,
Every morning, our son Stan gets ready for his day at Prescott with the same joy and eagerness he has carried for 16 years.
Today was no different; he left with a smile and a promise to pick some flowers – Stan has never met a dandelion he doesn’t like. It is in these simple, everyday moments that we are reminded just how extraordinary it is to have a place like Prescott in Stan’s life.
Prescott is where Stan has found friendship, connection and pride. It is where his contagious laugh and “I’m hilarious” sense of humour shines. It is where he gets to go for walks with Ben the horse, share his love of action figures, create art and experience a community that genuinely sees him. Most importantly, it is where he feels like he belongs.
We know that many of you understand this feeling. As families and caregivers, we’ve all walked a path that’s both challenging and filled with joy. What unites us is the belief that our loved ones with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve more than support; they deserve to live fully, with dignity, choice, and purpose.
That is why we are reaching out to you today, not just as Stan’s parents but also as long-time Prescott supporters and members of this remarkable community.
Prescott has now moved into its new home, Progress Place, in downtown Halifax, and this has opened the door to an even brighter future. The space is fully accessible, welcoming, and alive with possibility. It means more opportunities and more visibility for our loved ones, in the heart of the city.
However, we can’t build this future alone. It will take all of us, together.
That is why we are inviting you to join Prescott’s Builders of Belonging Monthly Giving Club. As a monthly donor, you’ll be part of something truly transformative. Every gift, large or small, will help ensure that Prescott remains a place of connection, growth, and creativity for years to come.
If you ever felt the warmth, love and safety within the Prescott community, then you already know how powerful this new chapter will be. And if you’ve ever wondered how to make a difference – this is it.
Let us come together and help Prescott build a future where belonging isn’t just a hope, it is a promise.
With deepest gratitude,
Stephen & Nancy Gilbert
